Frequently Asked Questions

Sibling Mini: Just the children.

Family classic: Immediate family (parents and children living in the same household).

Family Signature: Extended family up to 8 attendees; additional attendees may be included for $75/person.

Family sessions are designed to work beautifully with children of all ages — from babies through the teen years and beyond. Each session is structured with flexibility in mind, allowing me to tailor the experience to your children’s stage and temperament.

Rather than focusing strictly on age or perfect behavior, sessions are designed to meet children where they are developmentally. Every age brings its own rhythm, temperament, and way of engaging with the camera.

Family sessions are designed to include the whole family — parents and children together.

Sibling portraits are naturally part of the session, along with individual child portraits and a variety of family combinations. The goal is to capture both the connection within your whole family and the unique relationships between your children.

If you’re hoping for portraits that focus primarily on siblings without the full family session, a Sibling Mini Session may be a better fit.

For most babies and young children, morning sessions tend to work best.

Earlier in the day, children usually have more emotional and physical capacity — they haven’t yet moved through multiple transitions, errands, social interactions, or nap disruptions. Starting the session before the day accumulates helps children remain curious, flexible, and connected.

When a child begins with more margin, the entire session tends to feel calmer and more natural.

That’s completely normal.

Young children move through moods, curiosity, and shifting attention quickly. Sessions are designed to follow their pace rather than push against it.

If a child needs movement, a break, a cuddle, or time to warm up, we simply allow space for that. Often those in-between moments become the most genuine photographs.

You don’t need to manage your child’s behavior — I’ll guide the session and adapt as we go.

Learn more about The Protected Experience →

The most natural photographs happen when children feel calm and familiar with the experience. In the days leading up to your session, it can help to mention it casually, protect sleep and routines, and focus on connection rather than performance.

Children don’t need to practice smiling or posing — simply arriving rested and supported is enough.

How to Prepare Your Child for a Calm Photo Session →

That’s very common — and completely okay. Many partners arrive feeling unsure about being in front of the camera. My role isn’t to force anyone into awkward poses or staged moments. Instead, I guide the session in a relaxed, natural way that focuses on connection rather than performance.

Many mothers arrive holding a lot — the schedule, the outfits, the snacks, and the emotional tone of the room. During your session, you don’t have to manage all of that.

I’m watching the light, the details, and the pacing so you can focus on simply being present with your family. When you relax and connect with your children, the photographs naturally follow.

Yes — I offer outdoor family sessions exclusively during a short window each fall. Outdoor sessions take place over the first four weekends in October (eight evenings total), when Minnesota’s foliage is at its peak and the golden-hour light is especially beautiful.

I intentionally limit outdoor sessions to this time of year so I can follow the sun, photograph in ideal conditions, and create a relaxed experience that works well for young children and early bedtimes. These fall sessions are seasonal and offered in limited quantities each year.

If you’re hoping for outdoor portraits, I recommend planning ahead — these dates tend to fill quickly.

You’ll receive high-resolution files for printing and web-sized images for sharing. There are no required product purchases or hidden fees.

Digital Images Are Always Included →

Your photographs belong to you. Many families archive them digitally, share them with loved ones, or use them for holiday cards and personal printing over the years. Some families also choose to bring their images into their homes through albums or framed artwork.

Printed photographs have a quiet way of becoming part of daily life — something children grow up seeing and recognizing as part of their family story. If you’d ever like guidance designing albums or wall galleries, I offer optional heirloom artwork design services to help families thoughtfully bring their photographs into their homes.
